Terms of Service

Effective Date: 24 April 2026

By downloading, installing, or using Cheque-Mate (“App,” “we,” “us”), you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the App.

📄 1. License to Use the App

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Cheque-Mate on your device for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not copy, modify, distribute, reverse engineer, or remove proprietary notices. The App remains our property.

📱 2. Using the Service

Cheque-Mate helps you scan receipts, split bills, and collaborate with others. Features may change over time. You are responsible for your activity and for anyone you invite into collaborative splits. Invited users will have access to the shared content in the split.

👤 3. Accounts & Content

Core use does not require an account. For collaborative splits, anonymous identifiers sync sessions. You retain ownership of your content but grant us a license to host, process, and display it as needed to operate the App, including using third-party AI and cloud services.

💳 4. Subscriptions & Payments

Cheque-Mate Pro is an auto-renewing subscription billed through Apple In-App Purchase. Subscription titles, period lengths, and prices are shown at the point of purchase within the App. Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple ID settings (Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions). Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple per their policies; contact Apple Support to request a refund. Your use of Apple In-App Purchase is also subject to Apple's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

The Pay feature is a convenience that deep-links to third-party payment providers (such as PayPal, Revolut, Monzo, Venmo, or Cash App) with your recipient's saved handle and, where supported, the amount pre-filled. Cheque-Mate does not process, route, or settle money — the transaction happens entirely within the provider's app under their terms. You are responsible for the accuracy of any payment handles you save; verify them before sharing a split. We cannot recover funds sent to an incorrect handle.

✅ 5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to misuse the App, attempt to break security, overload systems, scrape data without permission, or use it for illegal purposes. Violations may result in suspension or termination.

🔄 6. Updates

We may provide updates, upgrades, or new features. Your use of updated versions is subject to this Agreement.

🧠 7. AI & Data Processing

Some features, including receipt scanning, collaborative splits, and optional calorie estimates, use automated systems and third-party services. Results may be inaccurate or incomplete. You should verify amounts, items, saved payment handles, and calorie estimates before relying on them.

🍕 8. Calorie Estimates (Pro)

Optional calorie information is provided as a best-effort estimate and is generated by AI. It is approximate and for convenience only. It is not medical, nutritional, or dietary advice and should not be used as a substitute for professional guidance.

👶 9. Children

The App is not intended for children under 13. By using the App, you represent that you meet the minimum age requirement and can form a binding contract in your jurisdiction.

⚠️ 10. Disclaimers & Liability

The App is provided “as is”. We disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. You are responsible for split totals, interactions with other users, and any decisions based on calorie estimates. Liability for claims is limited to the greater of what you paid in the last 12 months or £50, except where law prohibits limitation.

🚫 11. Termination

This license and access to the service may be terminated if you breach this Agreement. Upon termination, delete all copies of the App from your devices.

⚖️ 12. Governing Law

This Agreement is governed by the laws of England and Wales. Courts in England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence.

📱 13. Apple Licensed Application End User License Agreement

When you download Cheque-Mate from the App Store, your use is also governed by the terms of Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement. In the event of a conflict between these Terms and Apple's LAEULA, Apple's LAEULA prevails for the terms it specifically covers. You acknowledge that Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and has the right (and is deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you.
